Community use of school facilities is essential to providing equitable and healthy opportunities to youth and adults in school communities across the Strait Region.

Frank H. MacDonald Academy is a pre-primary to grade 8 school within the Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education.

The Pictou Fisheries Training Pool was officially opened in May 1980 as a joint effort between the Department of Fisheries and the Town of Pictou and is now operated by The YMCA of Pictou County.

The pool is 25 meters long and 15 meters wide with water depth varying from 1 meter to 3.8   meters. 

Features include:

• 1 m diving board
• Two shallow-water slides
• Water basketball nets
• Accessible chair lift and aqua wheelchair
• Adaptable life vests
• New accessible universal changeroom

The Ward One Social & Recreation Centre has indoor rental space complete with a bar, stage, sound system and kitchen as well as an outdoor basketball court (50 ft X 90 ft), soccer field (300 ft x 150 ft) and playground.

Public Space

Tartan Field Off-Leash Dog Park is a popular designated off-leash dog exercise area.

There are doggy bags and garbage cans on site. Please pick up after your pets!

A community, volunteer-driven group with a mandate to develop the waterfront and establish a community

The Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is a focal point in the region, serving residents, tourists and the business community. It is a state of the art facility offering meeting and conference facilities, including a full conference room (5040 square feet), a 16X30 board room, and classroom space.

The Civic Centre also houses an arena, fitness centre, dance studio, performance space, the J. Franklin Wright Gallery, municipal offices, racquetball courts, and a walking track.
