The Municipality of Barrington Recreation Department strives to support individual and community wellness through active living opportunities and community connectiveness. Programs and events are offered year-round and for all ages. Family activity hikes, youth after-school activities, preschool pop-up play events, fun runs/walks, and holiday celebrations occur each month.

The department manages a number of recreation facilities including the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena, Sherose Island Recreation Centre, outdoor pool, community garden, tennis court, and numerous trails, playgrounds and sports fields. 

The Barrington Municipal Library encompasses the traditions of public libraries while embracing the changing technologies of our world. This location offers many clubs, book loan mailing, and other virtual programming! We offer a wide variety of books, ranging from local history, non-fiction, and magazines, to child, teen, young adult, and adult books and novels. We also have movies!

Special Olympics provides sport and recreation opportunities for individuals of all ages with an intellectual disability. 

The Southwest Storm play in an eight-team Nova Scotia Regional Junior Hockey League.

Island Traps Ltd. is a manufacturing company that specializes in making wire lobster traps in Clark’s Harbour, Nova Scotia. It is also a convenient hardware store featuring commercial fishing hardware and supplies, hunting supplies, and feed and farm supplies.

Community Use of School is available through Muncipal Recreation Department. 

Community Hours: School year (Sept. to June) 

Weekdays 7pm -9pm

Weekends 9am -8pm 

Community use is dependent on school being open and available. 

The Barrington Municipal Pool is 82 feet long and 28 feet wide. The shallow end (20 x 28 feet) is only 2 1/2 feet deep. The pool then slopes down to a depth of 5 1/2 feet over the next 20 feet. The deep end (42 x 28 feet) is 5 1/2 feet deep. The pool is heated and a comfortable temperature will be maintained. Due to the depth of the pool,
diving will not be taught or allowed. A complete schedule of instruction using the Life Saving Society swimming program will be offered.

Please bring your own equipment.  Equipment may be provided through the Recreation Department loan program at the RecPlex. 

The Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena has an official NHL-size ice surface with 5 team rooms, a community meeting room, and a canteen.The ice is installed in September and removed in April each year for the winter season. During these months the arena provides hockey events, figure skating, public skating, skating lessons and pick-up hockey. During the off-season, the facility is used for dances, concerts, wrestling and other special events.

This playground is located on Brass Hill and is a great space for local families to have fun. This park has: basketball court, large open space, swing sets, playground equipment, and view of the ocean

This park can be found in Brass Hill. Drive down Bayside Drive,  and take a left onto Island View Drive, then the park will be at the end of the loop near the ocean.
